He was an actorw who appeared in such movies as "Carousel", "I'd Rather Be Rich", "Son of Flubber", "The Parent Trap" (1961), "The Bells of St. Mary's", "Give My Regards to Broadway", "Bedside Manner", "Honeymoon for Three", "The Farmer's Daugher", "Bringing Up Baby", "Ruggles of Red Cap", "Alice in Wonderland" (1933), "Young Man of Manhattan", "The Lady Lies" and "The Patchwork Girl of Oz". As well, he appeared on such television shows as "The World of Mr. Sweeney" (Cicero P. Sweeney) and "The Ruggles" (Charlie Ruggles), among numerous guest appearances. In 1959, he won a Tony Award for his role in the Broadway production of "The Pleasure of His Company". At one time he was married to actress Adele Rowland and his brother was director Wesley Ruggles. He died of cancer.
