He was an actor who appeared in the movies "Mandy" and "High Treason". As well, he directed such movies as "The Lady's Not for Burning", "Jane Eyre", "Great Expectations", "The Old Curiosity Shop", "Miracle in Soho" and "The Merry Wives of Windsor". Also, he directed such television shows as "Nanny", "Cribb", "Rumpole of the Bailey" and "The Third Man". He died of a stroke.
